Downtown St Louis Neighborhood

The Downtown St. Louis area lies in the 63103 zip code. Its boundaries are the Mississippi river to the east, Chouteau Avenue to the south, Tucker Boulevard to the west, and Cole Street to the north. The neighborhood sits close to shopping, night life, culture, and dining. It is considered one of the city’s most popular residential areas.

Distinct districts have emerged during downtown St. Louis’ growth, and within these districts are many unique neighborhoods.

The Central Business District (CBD) is located in the area around the Old Post Office Square. The OPO plaza offers residents free concerts and movies. The square lies at the historic center of downtown, and recent revitalization has unearthed the architectural treasures of the past.

This thriving commercial area. The Central Business District has over 3,500 hotel rooms, and hosts roughly 1,500 residents.

The city’s government lies at the Civic Center. Federal, state, and city offices occupy this center, as well as the courts, the City Hall, and Police Headquarters. The city’s central post office is also located there.

The Cupples Station/Ballpark District was once one of the busiest and most prominent commercial distribution centers in the entire U.S. These architecturally important buildings have been restored and turned into loft apartments, creative office spaces, popular restaurants, sports bars, and the well known Westin Hotel.

Developers have preserved many of the historic downtown buildings. Retail shops, restaurants, and bars occupy the buildings’ lower floors, while the upper floors are hip, modern loft and condo spaces. Many lofts offer fabulous views of both the Arch and the Mississippi River.
